According to a recent study by the National Association of Realtors®, more buyers now place a high value on easy access to schools, restaurants and stores, parks and even workplaces. Of 3000 residents surveyed, over 70% – including 62% of millennials and 55% of adults born before 1944 – agreed that walkability, closeness to highways, and short commutes were important factors in their choice of a home:
- 76% said sidewalks were appealing
- 69% would like parks within walking distance
- 71% desire convenient public transportation
- 60% would pay more to live in a walkable community
The Main Line community of Wayne is a terrific example of a walkable town, hailed as one of America’s best places to retire, and as one of the “Top 100 Places to Live” according to U.S. News and World Report. There’s easy access to public transportation, shops and restaurants, and South Wayne kids can walk to the Radnor Middle School. Malvern, Bryn Mawr and Media are other great examples of Main Line communities highly sought-after for their walkable lifestyles.
