Walkability is Key to Buyers Seeking Homes for Sale in Main Line Communities
The trend has been building, and according to a recent study by the National Association of Realtors®, more and more of the buyers across the country, including those looking for homes for sale in Main Line communities like Wayne and Bryn Mawr, place a high value on walkability. Close, walkable access to community features and even to workplaces has become a very popular home feature. Of 3000 residents surveyed, over 70% agreed that walkability, closeness to highways, and short commutes were important factors in their choice of home.
When asked questions about specific aspects of walkable communities, 76% of respondents agreed that sidewalks were appealing, 69% agreed that they would like parks within walking distance, and 71% agreed that public transportation being nearby was a desirable feature.
Both young and older adults share the desire to live in walkable communities, with 62% of millennials and 55% of the “silent generation,” those adults born before 1944, preferring this feature. Many would give up detached housing for increased walkability, and 60% of those surveyed would pay more to live in a walkable community.
What is so wonderful about walkable homes for Sale in Main Line communities? For many adults, the easy access to work and necessities like groceries, without the need of a car, is perfect. Others like the ability to walk through parks or visit local restaurants without the need of a vehicle.
