A Typical Timeline for a Home Buyer

So you want to be a home buyer, huh? Do you know what a typical timeline of actions would be for that? Here is one we see a lot. Amazing how many steps there are, isn’t it? And it is so important to follow the right order in the home buying process.

Call a buyer’s agent (if you are smart)

Meet with the agent and develop a list of   requirements

Start to review listings on the MLS with the   agent

Visit a lender to discuss the price you are   qualified for (and comfortable with)

Provide the lender with the docs needed to do   a preapproval

Start looking at houses

Refine either the price or the neighborhoods

Decide you want to place an offer on a house

Review comparable sales and go back for a   second visit

Write an offer, with a filled-out agreement of   sale and a cover letter

Obtain a lender preapproval specific to that   house

Negotiate the terms of the transaction   (usually done orally)
