Radnor is an area that can be variously described. Some refer to just the area north of Lancaster Avenue where the train station is located. Others call the Villanova area west of the "Blue Route" (RTE 476) the Radnor area. The actual township encompasses all or part of the towns of Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Rosemont, Villanova, Wayne and Devon. It is not really a town and does not have a post office (anymore). But most people agree it is a desirable address. Both an elementary and a high school in the area are named Radnor. Villanova University, Cabrini College, the Valley Forge Military Academy and College and Eastern University are all located within Radnor Township. The University of Pennsylvania has a large medical complex here for its suburban clientele. Many area residents work in the Class A office buildings located near the Radnor train station. The community has a reputation for preserving open space and has numerous beautiful parks and public recreational areas. The new Radnor Middle School incorporated numerous "green" building techniques, including a rooftop with plantings.
Radnor was recently listed as a one of the Top 100 best places to live by Fortune Magazine—the only Pennsylvania community in the top 50. In 1996, Radnor Township was named by Philadelphia magazine as the "Best Place to Live" in the Philadelphia suburbs.
