Paoli  is a mid-point between the original area known as the Main Line and its newer areas to the west. A busy AMTRAC station centers the town, which is the subject of a bold development idea. The centerpiece of the master plan is the proposed Paoli Transportation Center. Replacing the current small brick train station, the center would more efficiently connect rail, bus, auto and pedestrian traffic and serve as the focal point for the neighborhood.

Nearby is a memorial (see photo) to the famous Paoli Massacre, when the British led by Lord Grey launched a devastating strike into General Anthony Wayne's unprepared American camp. Bayonets, – a weapon Americans considered barbaric – were used to kill 53 Americans. The use of the bayonet coupled with the notion that the British stabbed or burned the Americans who tried to surrender, made martyrs of those maimed and killed at Paoli. For the rest of the war, the British lived in fear that Wayne's troops would try to avenge the affair that came to be know as the Paoli Massacre.
