Builders do not like you to have an agent – they want to be able to control the process. High pressure, unfair forms, hidden costs, and limited rights are common in new construction if you do not have your own advocate.

Don’t pay anyone to be your agent No “retainer”, no “fee”, no charges. A buyer’s agent relies on the contractual obligation from the multiple listing website to be paid the offered amount – they don’t need you to pay them. The law says you have a right to your own agent, so use one!

Don’t let the person at the open house be your agent  This person has a relationship with the seller. They will make more money if you let them help you buy the house. You will not get “favored” treatment or be told more about the house’s secrets.
